Obituary for Dewey Cleo Perkins

Dewey Perkins, age 87, of Burke’s Garden, Virginia, passed away on June 15, 2018. Dewey was born in Buchanan Co., Virginia, in February, 1931 and was the last surviving of the nine children of Arthur Ballard and Amanda (Hagy) Perkins.

Dewey served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp during the Korean War. Afterwards, he moved to Michigan and began his 35 year career with General Motors as a chrome plating specialist. In retirement, he eventually returned to Southwest Virginia and the mountains he loved. Dewey spent his last 18 years doing what he most enjoyed, bowling, farming, driving his tractor and playing his banjo. He will be remembered as a person with a big heart and quick wit who loved to be a prankster.

Survived by his wife, Michelle; children Judy (Gary) Brown, Ron (Sharon) Perkins; 7 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Dewey was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret, and son, David.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 21, at the Crab Orchard Museum, Frog Level building, from 2-5 pm.
