Obituary for Teresa "Nana" Dickerson

Teresa "Nana" Dickerson, age 63, died on Sunday, April 15, 2018 in Washington Hospital surrounded by her husband and children. Teresa was born in the heart of coal country in Mullens, West Virginia to Ellen Lee and Russell Cardwell. She was a member of Herndon Freewill Baptist Church in Herndon, WV where she was a congregant of Oak Tolliver. Teresa was a devoted wife to Jerry Dickerson and mother to Craig and Flechia Dickerson. Jerry enlisted in the United States Army and between tours of duty in Vietnam, they were married on June 26th, 1970. During that time Teresa lived in Bud, WV with her mother and father. Following his tour of duty Jerry and Teresa settled in Bud to raise their family. Teresa was always a strong, steady force in the family, dutifully taking care of the children and the household. Eventually the family relocated to Richlands, Virginia where they lived the bulk of their lives. Teresa was always a family woman, keeping close contact with her parents and siblings. She, her sisters and their mother never lived more than a couple hours' drive from one another, and whenever the distance was too much of a challenge to navigate, they always stayed in touch by way of the phone. When her children relocated to Pittsburgh, PA and Charlotte, NC, the distance was never too great to hop in the truck and pay them a visit. Her family mattered more to her than anything.

Teresa was preceded in death by her sisters Janet Cardwell and Aleta McKinney, and her father Russell Cardwell. Left to honor Teresa and her love and devotion are her husband Jerry Dickerson; mother Ellen Lee Cardwell; son Craig (Taunya) Dickerson, daughter Flechia (Richard) Priode; six grandchildren, Kate and Logan Dickerson; Robert, Elizabeth, Rebecca, and Harrison Priode; sisters Debbie (David) Francis, and Cindy (Chris) Hamilton; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA with Bro. Oak Tolliver and Bro. Vonley "Corky" Pruitt officiating. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made in honor of Teresa to the American Cancer Society at http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/Events/MosaicofHope;jsessionid=00000000.app364a?pg=fund&fr_id=9910&pxfid=2334685&NONCE_TOKEN=93745888EF89316FC4B3837EBB3314D3
