Obituary for William (Bill) Robinson

William C “Bill” Robinson of Bristol VA passed away in his sleep on August 17, 2017.

Born August 5, 1928 in his beloved Kentucky, the only child of Kathryn Hawkins Robinson. He met Jean Drury, his wife of 45 years, at Georgetown College. During this time, at Georgetown, Bill enjoyed his friendships of the fraternal brotherhood of Kappa Alpha. Those friendships continued throughout his life. He served in the navy Seabee’s during the Korean War, returning home to begin a lifelong career in the automotive industry. He and his sons have over 40 years of service in the Robinson Napa Auto Parts and machine shop business in Richlands and Honaker VA. He volunteered for decades in the Kiwanis Club activities for children first in Paris KY and finally in Richlands VA.

Bill enjoyed 3 loves in his life… Family, Dogs and Cars. Bill was always looking for his next “project” at home or work. He enjoyed every moment working with his hands.

Although he moved the family to Virginia in 1969, his heart remained in Kentucky. His family would make bi-weekly trips home to Versailles and Lexington for years. In recent years, a celebration pulling the Robinson clan and friends together occurred in the fall, sharing laughter, food and stories. His country ham, baking thru slicing, was the highlight of the meal.

Bill was proceeded in death by his wife Jean Robinson. He was survived by son, Steve Robinson, Bristol VA; daughters, Kathy Robinson and husband Tom Baker, Seattle WA, Robin and Lee McChesney, Cleveland TN, son, Brad and Jenny Robinson, Richlands VA; grandchildren Craig and Zoe Robinson, Ben and Lindsey McChesney, Sarah Robinson, Katelyn McChesney and Megan and Christian Hearl; three cousins Emma Jean Routt, Earlene Arnett, and Billy Cook; nephews, Paul Scott Howerton and Layton Howerton; one niece, Martha Thomas.

A few years ago, Bill was asked what he thought Heaven would be like. He answered “If I have no pain and no worries, I will be in heaven.” May all of us enjoy a few days of “no pain or worries” while we remember and say good bye to Bill.

Bill was an only child who found friendship in dogs throughout his life. His first dog named `Spot’, his last `Katie’ and his best friend `Jake’. In lieu of flowers, donations or volunteering at your local Humane Society is appreciated.
