Sadie Faye Sparks Sykes

Isaiah 41:13 “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.’”

Sadie was born January 19, 1945 to John Ervin and Crecie Rasnake Sparks. She was the sixth of eight children, and was the baby girl. Sadie was a very loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.

Sadie married the love of her life, Roger Lee Sykes. They were blessed with two sons, John Everett (Jay) and Roger Lee, Jr. (Rocky). Sadly her husband and sons passed away, leaving her to carry on. Sadie always faced life head-on and showed no fear. Her bright smile covered many heartaches.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Vada Rebecca Brooks and Betty Sue Asbury. One brother, Dallas Ray Sparks, and four nephews. Left to honor her memory are her sisters, Dixie Marie Heath (Ernest -deceased), Sarah Ann Taylor (Jack), brothers, Jonah Patton (Teresa) and Billy Irven (Constance) and sister-in-law, Christine Lockhart. Numerous nieces and nephews, especially her niece, Susan White, who provided much care and nurturing for her Aunt Sadie. Sadie is also survived by her beloved grandson, Jonah Patton Kelly Sykes and two great-grandsons, Noah and Connor Sykes. They held her heart.

Sadie was a member of Linkous Chapel Freewill Baptist Church on Dryfork. Most importantly, she is a child of God and received her salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ. She often expressed that she was ready to go to her heavenly home to be with her loved ones, especially her beloved boys.

Sadie was owner and operator of two restaurants in Tazewell, VA. The Pelican and Sadie’s. Through her work she made many friends. She was an inspiration and was uplifting to anyone who walked through her door. Sadie was always generous and would go out of her way to help people, especially children in need. Sadie was recently honored by the Rotary Club in Tazewell with the Paul Harris Fellow Award. She was very honored to have received this recognition.
She will be remembered and missed by her many friends, especially her best friend, Judy Mabe, whom she dearly loved.

The family thanks all her caregivers from the Senior Companion Program through Clinch Valley Community Action and to all her medical caregivers.

According to Sadie’s wishes and directives she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a future date. Sadie requested any memorials to her be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, P O Box 97075, Washington, DC 20090-7075. This organization was very dear to her heart since her son Jay, died of this disease.
